Mozpad & XulRunner logos

Hi folks !

A generous artist, Marianne Thoyer, has made some work about the Mozpad
identity. She works on some Mozpad logo attempts. Here some drafts:

And my favorite one:

After seeing these pictures, I thought the 'cell' ones could fit for a
XulRunner logo, so, just for fun, I've asked her to change the label
mozpad to xulrunner:

Before going forward, she needs to know the community feeling. Feel free to
comment :)

mozpad.org website is boring

Well... the
mozpad.org website is not really sexy. Currently, the default Dokuwiki theme is
used. What about redesigning it ? There's a set of templates here. I've tried the
r7throot template. Really easy to install and to setup. It could be a good
opportunity to clean the wiki (a real home page, a clean
projects page, a news page, ...). BTW, we should work on a
logo :) Any good designer here ?

Help from the Free IT Foundation

At the beginning of the Mozpad project (two
weeks ago) I've been contacted by the Free IT Foundation. They
seem interested by the Mozpad activity. We talked about the Mozpad project's
global goals (although
the main purpose is not actually clearly defined). If I understand
correctly, the foundation's main effort is to help developers with concretising
global projects.

So... what does that means for us (how can they help) ?

- Packaging and visual identity

- Applicable economic model and financing of open source
technology

- Server infrastructure and online services interconnectivity

- Project Strategy

... not sure everything might be of use for us, but that sounds interesting
for one of the Mozpad proposed action: Create better XULRunner packaging.
Propose possibilities for a new and better name and logo. Help market the
platform and attract more developers to it (kind of a Spreadfirefox but aimed
at developers). Create outreach materials.

These different pieces of work will be offered to the collectivity and
will be developed according to the « Best Effort » principles by the Partner
Company horsconcept (www.horsconcept.ch
//
), member of the Foundation's Support Council.

In the next days, the Foundation and horsconcept will submit a complete
file encompassing the proposals and ideas to initiate and ascertain the
Project's sustainable development. This file will include the following
elements:

- One proposal for an official Project name and an Internet domain
name

- Three proposals of logos and their respective graphic identity

Well... this should provide some base materials for future works that
involves spreading Mozilla technologies.

- Several studies of applicable economic models

- Several studies of organizational schemes

I don't know exactly what they will propose... we'll see.

We sincerely hope to have the opportunity of participating in the
Project which we believe can have a real impact in promoting and spreading
Mozilla based open source technologies.

Should you need further information please do not hesitate to contact
us. With best regards,

Lionel Lourdin Founder, Free IT Foundation - ll at free-it-foundation.org

I guess this help might be really interesting for the Mozpad community... let's
wait and see for now :)
